St John’s choir sings at services every Sunday.
This parish is fortunate to have a strong choral tradition going back many generations. Our repertoire is wide and varied, drawn from the last six centuries and from contemporary composers (see the current music list on the News page of this website).
The choir sings to a high standard and is regularly invited to sing Evensong at Wells Cathedral. We have also sung at Salisbury, Exeter and Hereford cathedrals.
The age range of our singers is also wide: one member recently celebrated 50 years in St John’s choir, and we have an enthusiastic band of youngsters aged from 7 and up. On big occasions as many as 30 of us sing. We all work together to make a joyful sound.
Rehearsals are every Thursday: from 7pm to 8 for Juniors (trebles) and, overlapping, from 7:30 to 8:45pm for the Seniors (soprano, alto, tenor and bass).
New singers are always welcome; contact Matthew Redman (Organist and Director of Music) at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an initial chance to join us at choir practice.
St John’s also offers choral and organ scholarships to suitable young musicians. Please contact Matthew for details.
