About Us - Music

 - click for enlargementThe music at St John's Parish Church is steeped in the Anglican tradition but also enjoys a regular injection of modern compositions from home and abroad.

The Parish mainly uses Common Praise for worship services but we also draw on music from other sources and traditions. The choir lead us in singing several sections of our service, including the Gloria and the Creed and they often sing an anthem during communion.

Each week, Derek rehearses our enthusiastic, talented choir which is the musical bedrock of our services. On the first Sunday of every month, we have a sung evensong. The choir consists of parishioners of all ages, and Derek is particularly eager to boost youth participation in the choir.

St John's is regularly used as a venue for visiting choirs and musical groups. We hold concerts and a Music festival every year in July. For information on forthcoming musical events see our Diary.
